Lewis and Clark Library System provides many services that directly benefit the people of Illinois. Our most visible and well-loved service is courier delivery of requested library materials. Using routes designed for the most cost- and time-effective delivery of materials, we travel just under 200,000 miles/year, delivering over 2.1 million items last year. Each stop costs LCLS around $15.
For nearly 45 years, our main source of funding has been the State of Illinois. However, in recent years, the State’s funding obligation has continued to fall short of what is promised in the law. In fact, this year, the State has even fallen many months behind on the meager payments we use to sustain this vital service for you, endangering it even further.
We hope that you’ll consider making a donation to keep this and other services to libraries alive. If you’d like, you can make a donation online using the “Donate” button above, or you can make a donation to Lewis & Clark Library System, 6725 Goshen Road, Edwardsville, IL 62025.
