Milwaukee County Federated Library System Director
The Milwaukee (WI) County Federated Library System (MCFLS) is seeking an experienced and talented library professional to serve as its next Director.
Located 90 miles north of Chicago on beautiful Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is Wisconsin’s largest city with a population of 600,000 within a surrounding metro area of 1.5 million (a total of 1 million in Milwaukee County). Milwaukee’s cultural scene features a world class symphony orchestra and more than 20 performing arts groups. The city is home to several major league teams, including baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers, the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, the American Hockey League’s Milwaukee Admirals and the 2005 Major Indoor Soccer League champions, the Milwaukee Wave. The city features 15,000 acres of park land, several miles of lakefront access and hiking, running and bike trails.
ABOUT THE MILWAUKEE COUNTY FEDERATED LIBRARY SYSTEM
The mission of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System (MCFLS) is to assume a leadership role in facilitating cooperation among its member libraries, improving access to and encouraging sharing of resources, promoting the most effective use of local, county, state and federal funds and assisting member libraries in the utilization of current and evolving technologies to provide the highest level of library service to all residents of Milwaukee County.
MCFLS has 15 member libraries anchored by the Milwaukee Public city libraries. The office is centrally located downtown, within Milwaukee’s Central library, a beautiful and historic structure on Wisconsin Ave, downtown’s major thoroughfare. The system has a $4+ million annual budget, including a $2.7 million operating budget.
Governed by a 7 member Board of Directors, the Director will serve as the Milwaukee System representative to local, state and regional library associations and constituencies. He or she will lead future strategic planning, ongoing technology upgrades, and will be skilled at relationship building and fostering a collaborative environment among the stakeholders.
MCFLS operates and administers the CountyCat shared automation system (Innovative Interfaces-based) CountyCat makes the resources of member libraries readily available to all County residents. Various other projects and initiatives are provided in collaboration with the libraries.
