With Much Appreciation
After close to 24 years of system service, Alice Stivers, IMSA Machine Clerk, has announced her retirement. Alice started with Shawnee Library System in 1990 and her last day will be March 28th.
We thank Alice for her many years of service and wish her joy on her retirement!
March IHLS Board Meeting
The next IHLS Board meeting is Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. The Board meeting will be available via videoconferencing at the three IHLS locations, as well as the Illinois State Library and the Decatur Public Library. If you are not able to join us at the Helen Matthes Library in Effingham, perhaps one of these other locations will be more convenient. When available, you will find the March agenda and board packet here.

Candidates for IHLS Board of Directors Election
Voting for the IHLS Board of Directors is done via an online survey/ballot. The link to that survey was distributed via the IHLS Announce listserv on March 15, 2014. EACH MEMBER LIBRARY RECEIVES JUST ONE VOTE. This is a preview ballot for viewing the candidates prior to voting.
New to the election this year is a provision for write-in candidates for 2 of the seats. Because there were no nominees to fill the open Special Library seat and one of the Public Library Trustee seats, voters will be able to write in a candidate as they cast their ballot. The eligible nominee with the most votes will win the respective seat. Eligibility will be verified by the IHLS Nominating Committee. If no eligible candidate steps forward in this election, any empty seat will be filled by the IHLS Board President, as approved by the full IHLS Board. Please consult with your board, branches, or others as needed prior to voting. One designated person should then vote on behalf of the entire member library using the link distributed on the IHLS Announce listserv. A list of candidates has been posted on the IHLS website: http://www.illinoisheartland.
Delivery Tip: Highlighters
Please do not use highlighters on delivery labels. Highlighters can blur the ink and make the labels hard to read.
The eRead Illinois project continues to grow. The 3M Cloud Library shared collection is happy to welcome three new participating libraries on April 1, 2014. Chrisman Public Library, East Alton Public Library District, and Elkhart Public Library bring the total number of participating libraries to 130!
Let's look at a few other interesting numbers. Did you know that...
- there are over 10,500 unique e-book titles between the 3M Cloud Library shared collection and the B&T Axis 360 shared collection? And, that number continues to grow each week!
- the 3M cloud library shared collection has already circulated 3,425 items during the month of March. That's only 1,200 less than what circulated for the whole month of February, and we still have 10 days to go!
- the total population served by the eRead Illinois project at this time is over 3,000,000! We're definitely expanding e-book access across the state of Illinois.
As always, none of this would be possible without YOU, our members, and we can't say THANK YOU enough for making this project a continued success!

Litchfield Library held a BIG 50th birthday celebration for Clifford the Big Red Dog on March 15. They had several games (pin the nose on Clifford, puppy PLINKO, a bone walk) and crafts (Clifford ears, a heart necklace, a dog bone bookmark), plus birthday cake, a giant birthday card to sign, a “count the kibble” game to guess how much dog food was in Clifford’s can, a coloring contest, and a place to just stop and read a Clifford book. They sold red Clifford t-shirts for the event as well.
Even a “mini Clifford” came by to meet the Big Red Dog!
