Dear LCLS members,

The merger journey we embarked on nearly a year ago is drawing to a close.  In just a few weeks, Lewis & Clark Library System will officially join its three sister Systems (Lincoln Trail, Rolling Prairie, and Shawnee Library Systems) to create the Illinois Heartland Library System.

While we have worked to complete the legal requirements of the merger in FY2011, we are well aware that FY2012 represents a transition year.  The foundational aspects of a new board, and the core services of delivery, automation and talking books to support resource sharing are in place and ready to provide a seamless continuation of the services you and your patrons depend on.  The new fiscal year will provide challenges and opportunities as we move to merge our cultures and programs.

The LCLS representatives on the planning panel, committees, and the transition board have served you well and are deserving of our appreciation.  They have attended countless committee meetings, reviewed a myriad of merger documents, and traveled around southern Illinois to ensure that our members remain the primary consideration of all aspects of the merger process.  As we move from the merger phase to the transitional phase, your representatives and the process can benefit from your continued interest in the remaining transition board meetings.  Your attendance at the June 9, 2011, transition board meeting would be appreciated.  As you can see from the agenda, we have more work to do in the area of staffing and LLSAP support.

If you are attending the meeting in Effingham and would like to carpool from LCLS, there are a couple minivans departing the System at 2:30 p.m. this Thursday.  Please contact the System at 656.3216, extension 0, and let us know to expect you.
