Another delivery day for LCLS members (East Alton Route)
This is the fourth in a series posts featuring an LCLS courier route and our members along the way.
Today Julia Pernicka, Executive Assistant, road along on the East Alton route with Janice Bienemann, Courier Driver. Follow along as delivery leaves the system and material is delivered and picked up. Members could follow along on the Lewis & Clark Library System FACEBOOK page as delivery left the system and materials were delivered and picked up at member libraries. You do not need to have an account or be logged in to see the post. Who knows…we may be highlighting YOUR library next!
October 8, 2010

Sandy Shattuck greeted us. Sandy says, "Our library is so small we depend on LCLS delivery. LCLS delivery defines who we are." This is their 'ongoing' book sale area.

8:40 - arrived at Glen Carbon Centennial Library. Congratulations to all of the staff at Glen Carbon on their fantastic year. They were awarded Best Small Library in America 2010 by Library Journal and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Director, Anne Hughes, is the Illinois Librarian of the Year. Magi Henderson, Youth Services, was awarded the Golden Ticket award from ILA. Reaching Forward South named Amanda Wendel this year's Illinois Support Staff of the Year. The Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce named the library as Business of the Month for November. WOW!

Here is Janice delivering their tubs. Janice has been a driver for 6 years. She says, "She loves it...a perfect job. You get to get out and talk to people and you get LOTS of exercise!"

9:25 arrived at Venice Public Library. The library wasn't open so Janice used the key to deliver their tub.

Here is Linda Morgan and Jamie Morgan. Jamie has been the Director for 1 1/2 years. Linda is actually her mother. They've both worked at the library for 7 years. They both said they are pleased with delivery. The drivers are always pleasant and helpful.

The library was remodeled two years ago. Renovations took almost a year. Books were boxed up and they worked out of the annex. For that year they just operated with new books and DVDs.

A sign of the times. Here is their new Internet Cafe! This is great place to relax, drink a cup of coffee while you read or maybe watch the large flat screen TV.

10:50 am - East Alton Public Library District is our last stop on the route today. The new automatic doors are wonderful for delivery.
Today was a light load for the East Alton Route. Janice delivered 22 tubs, 2 bags, and 3 book buddies. We picked up 20 tubs and 1 bag.
