LibraryLearning (L2) update:
A group of Illinois library systems is working cooperatively to support the Library Learning (L2) service so it continues to be available to the Illinois library community. To support this effort, L2 is being relocated to the Metropolitan Library System in Burr Ridge.
L2 will be unavailable during the afternoon of Friday, September 17, 2010.
They are currently working with the program getting it ready for the move. During the next few days, information showing in L2 may not be current. If possible, please wait until Monday to register for any upcoming events. Thanks for your patience!
FY2011 School District Library Grant applications available:
Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White and the Illinois State Library are pleased to announce that the FY2011 School District Library Grant application and related documents are now available at the State Library’s website:
The School District Library Grant Program, the first of its kind in the nation, is designed to help provide more library books and materials for students of public schools in Illinois. Last year, grants totaling almost $1.4 million were awarded to 715 Illinois public school districts. Nearly 2 million students served by school library media programs benefited from the grants. Please read all materials carefully. Contact Ron Winner at 217-785-1168 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) Fall Conference:
The Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA) Fall Conference will be held at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois, October 28th -30th. With the theme of Bridging the Gap: Linking Learners and Libraries, the conference will offer 106 concurrent sessions, 20 half-day seminars, and a chance to meet 37 authors of children’s and young adult literature in an “Author Showcase.” For more information, see the ISLMA site.
ILA’s Inaugural Virtual Conference
The Illinois Library Association will be holding its first-ever virtual conference on Wednesday, 29 September. The program will feature highlights from the 2010 ILA Annual Conference, with a focus on partnerships and planning.
If you are unable to attend this year’s conference, the virtual conference is a convenient and affordable way to stay abreast of current trends and issues. Virtual sessions will be recorded and available for viewing on your own schedule, making them a valuable tool for ongoing professional development. For more information, and to register, visit the ILA Virtual Conference Web site.
Just a reminder that the Illinois State Library subsidized Novelist/Novelist Plus expires September 30th. To continue your subscription, please contact Kristie Blomster at EBSCO. She may be reached at email@example.com or 1-800-653-2726 ext. 2244.
The return of Try-It! Illinois
Secretary White and the Illinois State Library are pleased to announce that the eleventh annual Try-It! Illinois statewide database trial will be available October 1 through November 30. Try-It! Illinois offers library staff and users an excellent opportunity to survey and evaluate a wide variety of electronic resources. Thanks to partnerships between the Illinois State Library and the participating electronic resource vendors, there is no charge for accessing these databases during Try-It! Illinois.
You will need a login and password to access Try-it! Illinois. Libraries are encouraged to share the Try-It! Illinois login and password with their library users, providing them the opportunity to use and recommend electronic resources for possible purchase at the local level. Try-It! Illinois 2010 will be posted at www.finditillinois.org/tryit/
Contact Gwen Harrison beginning October 1 at firstname.lastname@example.org or 217-785-7334 to obtain the login and password. The login and password have also been provided to regional library systems. Do not post the Try-It! Illinois login and password on the Internet or in publicly archived electronic newsletters. This is vital to the success of the trial and to maintaining the relationships that have been established with vendors.
The 2010-2011 Public Library Funding & Technology Access Study survey (PLFTAS) launched this week. Log on to www.plinternetsurvey.org. Illinois public libraries receiving a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Opportunity Online Hardware Grant MUST complete the survey as a requirement for receiving the grant. Please complete the survey no later than October 29, 2010.
