Southern IL library system merger conversations:
The LCLS Board of Directors appointed Harriett Zipfel (Director, Belleville Public Library) as a second alternate planning panel member. Draft minutes from the August 12, 2010, meeting have been posted on Cooperation Today (www.cooperationtoday.org). As a reminder, the next four planning panel meetings will be rotated among the four system headquarters to allow more members access to the merger process. The September meeting will be Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at or near the Shawnee Library System headquarters in Carterville, IL. Details will be posted as soon as they are available. Remaining 2010 meetings are slated for:
- October, 2010 – Lewis & Clark Library System
- November, 2010 – Rolling Prairie Library System
- December, 2010 – Lincoln Trail Libraries System
All planning panel meetings are open to the public. Be sure to check the Cooperation Today web site for updated information including documents and to comment on any aspect of the process. We encourage member participation at meetings and welcome your comments on Cooperation Today.
Opportunity Online – Gates Grants
Here’s important information for public libraries that benefited from the Opportunity Online grant, phase one: the Tech Atlas inventory serves as the report documenting that the appropriate number of computers were purchased with Opportunity Online phase one grant funds. Timely completion demonstrates good stewardship of grant funds. Libraries participating in the program must complete their inventory prior to August 30th. Please go to this website to update your library’s Tech Atlas inventory reflecting the new Opportunity Online computers: http://webjunction.techatlas.org/tools/. Anyone needing login or password help should contact Library Development Group at 1-800-665-5576 x1.
Per Capita Grants:
We are happy to announce that Mary Downing (Specialized Services Consultant, Illinois State Library) will participate in a video conference held at LCLS headquarters Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Registration information will soon be available. In the meantime, if you are looking for online information about the grant process, please check this portion of the Illinois State Library web site:
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/what_we_do/equalizationgrant.html
Per Capita Grant funding helps public libraries address the needs of their patrons. Libraries count on Per Capita Grants for expenses such as paying for material, personnel, equipment, electronic access, telecommunications and technology. Equalization Aid Grants are important because they help public libraries which have a low library tax base, and help ensure a minimum level of funding for library services.
Grant applications are to be legibly postmarked on or before October 15, 2010, or hand delivered to the Illinois State Library no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 15, 2010. For additional information contact Mary Downing at mdowning@ilsos.net or Jeanne Urbanek at jurbanek@ilsos.net.
