Southern IL library system merger conversations:
The first planning panel meeting of the Southern Illinois Library Systems was held Thursday, August 12th in Effingham. Panelists refined their meeting protocols including guidelines for public comment, selected members for subcommittees, and agreed to locations for the next several meetings. Subcommittees established in these four areas: Delivery, Legal and Governance, Resource Sharing, and Strategic Planning. Through the end of the calendar year, meetings will be rotated among the four system headquarters to allow more members access to the merger process. The September meeting will be Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at or near the Shawnee Library System headquarters in Carterville, IL. Details will be posted as soon as they are available. Remaining 2010 meetings are slated for:
- October, 2010 – Lewis & Clark Library System
- November, 2010 – Rolling Prairie Library System
- December, 2010 – Lincoln Trail Libraries System
Be sure to check the Cooperation Today web site for updated information including documents and to comment on any aspect of the process.

Per Capita Grant Application
‘Just a reminder that the FY2011 Illinois Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grant application is now available at the Illinois State Library website:
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/what_we_do/equalizationgrant.html
Per Capita Grant funding helps public libraries address the needs of their patrons. Libraries count on Per Capita Grants for expenses such as paying for material, personnel, equipment, electronic access, telecommunications and technology. Equalization Aid Grants are important because they help public libraries which have a low library tax base, and help ensure a minimum level of funding for library services.
Grant applications are to be legibly postmarked on or before October 15, 2010, or hand delivered to the Illinois State Library no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 15, 2010. For additional information contact Mary Downing at mdowning@ilsos.net or Jeanne Urbanek at jurbanek@ilsos.net.
