Reminder: System offices closed Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Just a gentle reminder that LCLS will be closed Wednesday, August 4, 2010, to allow staff to attend staff development training.  We will be open and delivery will resume Thursday, August 5, 2010.

Southern IL library system merger conversations:

The first two meetings of the planning panel for the Southern Systems Group have been set.  Both meetings will be held in Effingham, IL, at the Effingham Knights of Columbus (1501 W. Fayette Avenue, Effingham, IL).  Meeting dates and times are:

• Thursday, August 12, 2010, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.

Agendas have not been finalized and will be posted on the Cooperation Today web site as well as the LCLS web site.

FY2011 Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grants:

The FY2011 Illinois Public Library Per Capita and Equalization Aid Grant application is now available at the Illinois State Library website:

Grant applications are to be legibly postmarked on or before October 15, 2010, or hand delivered to the Illinois State Library no later than 4:30 p.m. on October 15, 2010.  For additional information contact Mary Downing at mdowning@ilsos.net or Jeanne Urbanek at jurbanek@ilsos.net.

College of DuPage LTA classes:

Fall classes are now forming for the College of DuPage Library & Information Technology Program.  Participants may take classes online, on-campus, or a hybrid combo.

Farewells:

LCLS staff will soon be saying goodbye to a handful of colleagues old and new.  Their contributions to our organization will always be appreciated and their presence in our daily work lives will be missed.  We wish them all success in future endeavors!

• Sarah Heuertz, Cataloging Maintenance Center Cataloger, will retire from LCLS after 20 years of dedicated service.  Her last day in the office is July 30, 2010.
• Vince Andrzejewski, Cataloging Maintenance Center Cataloging Assistant, will be laid off due to the current grant’s completion.  His last day in the office will be August 6, 2010.
• Kevin Becker, Technology Development Manager, will resign from LCLS to accept another position. Kevin’s last day in the office will be August 8, 2010.

The Fairview Heights Public Library has an open position for a Part-Time Circulation Clerk. The position is 26 hours a week with alternating Friday/Saturday work. The work required is split between circulation activities at the desk as well as time spent processing.  This is a union position and will require that they adhere to that contract as well as pay the monthly dues.  Attached is a flier that goes into more detail.  Please share with anyone you feel may be interested in the position.  Position closes Monday, August 9 at 5pm.
