The Beloit Public Library has an opportunity for a library director who is willing to make a commitment to a vital community that has a strong sense of service, values its educational institutions, and is willing to invest in itself. During the economic downturn, the BPL has built a new 54,000 sq. ft. building and raised over $1.5 million from private donations.

The BPL seeks a library director who is a dynamic, outgoing, and creative problem solver to provide strategic vision and leadership. The successful candidate will be a leader who excels at building partnerships, empowering staff, and collaborating with other area agencies in a politically savvy environment; a librarian who can articulate, support, and promote the library’s mission to provide a complete spectrum of information to the community through a variety of materials, programs, appropriate technology, and a well-trained staff. We require a strong manager who is financially astute with the ability to manage limited resources.

The Beloit Public Library has a staff 50 employees, a collection of over 154,800 items, and the 2010 operating budget is $2,091,077. The City of Beloit offers an affordable and excellent quality of life with a wide range of outdoor and cultural activities. We are a diverse community of over 37,000 people, close to Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program, plus 7 years professional library experience (preferably at public libraries) with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, fundraising, and supervision. The successful candidate will have a strong philosophy of customer service, the ability to attract and maintain a talented staff, and embrace the library’s values, including innovation, trust, staff participation, and team management.
