Changes in LCLS Bylaws Impact Board Nominations (nominations are still needed)
At their February 16th regular board meeting, the LCLS Board of Directors revised the LCLS Bylaws; one major change impacts the composition of the Board. Changes in Article III, A. Governing Board, 2. Representation, b. and d. follow:
“b. Four (4) members of the board of directors shall represent in the following manner:
- One (1) representative shall represent academic and special libraries
- One (1) representative shall represent member libraries at large
- One (1) representative shall represent school libraries
- One (1) representative shall represent the public libraries
Representatives are selected from member library staff.”
“d. All board members must be eligible electors in the geographical area of the System.”
d. above is actually a requirement in state Statute (75 ILCS 10/5).
The survey monkey nomination form has been changed to reflect the change in representation. Nominations are called for three seats that will be open July 1st; the current board members have each held these seats for two terms (6 years) and are not eligible to serve again until 2012. The open seats are:
- One (1) Academic and Special Libraries Representative
- One (1) Member Libraries At Large Representative
- One (1) Public Libraries Representative
Currently there is one nomination for the Academic/Special seat and one nomination for the At Large seat. There has been no nomination made for the Public Libraries seat. The term for all of these seats is July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2013.
Please – if you are interested in serving on the System board – submit your nomination before March 31. The election for these seats will take place in April.
The only constraints are:
- You must work in an LCLS member library
- You must be eligible to vote and be elected in our geographic service area
- You are not eligible if you work in one of the following public libraries: Bethalto, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, Highland (Louis Latzer), or Granite City area (Six Mile Regional); there are LCLS Board members already serving on the board from those libraries
LCLS Board of Directors meetings are scheduled the 3rd Tuesday every month, except August and December, at the LCLS building in Edwardsville. Additional information: Qualifications, Job Description, and Meeting Information.
